My stepfather had an account with a credit card 5 yrs ago. He settled with a collection agency and now several yrs later MCM is calling about the debt. My stepfather has the paperwork to prove he paid it but MCM is no help. The Indian man I spoke with "Jim Walters" (what a joke) was extremely rude with me and when I asked for a supervisor he said the supervisor had already gone home. What can I do to stop these annoying calls and letters?

Since your stepfather has already paid off the debt, just dispute the debt with the collector with copies of proof of the payment. The CA cannot renew collection process if they cannot validate the debt.

If they're rude with you over the phone, you can file a case against them with the FTC for breaking FDCPA laws.
