Hi, just thought I'd add this one in here. I was contacted by a representative from Vengroff Williams last night, and I was impressed with how professional he was. No threats, and willing to work with me to settle the debt! It's refreshing to come across someone who realizes that sometimes we get behind because we're having difficulties, not because we are trying to escape paying our debts. I was a little leery when he told me they were based in Florida, as I've heard horror stories about several agencies based in FL. However, the fact that he told me to make the check out to my original creditor (and even told me I could take it to their office if I preferred, just to call him back and let him know I had done so) went a long way toward easing my fears. I also did a little research after the call, and found that they are in good standing and a legitimate company. I wish all my creditors were as easy to work with!

It is refreshing, especially coming on the heels of last pay's battle with a payday loan company! This guy (whose name I have written down at home) was very nice and understanding. I explained what had happened, and that I did intend to pay off the debt, and he asked if it would be easier for me to do it in two or three installments rather than one big one. I almost cried in relief! I'm so used to being called a deadbeat and other less mentionable names when I say that I need a little time, that I felt a burden lift off my shoulders when he was the one who suggested a payment plan! I'll definitely report back and let you all know how it goes with them, but I think this one will be better than most.

I would advise checking the laws of your State. An abusive collection agent is not a legal means to collect a debt.

The last few days have been a real eye opener for me researching collection/debt laws. The debtor has a lot more rights than you may think.
