Points of interest from Florida laws regarding payday loans:
Maximum amount of loan is $500
Maximum term of loan is 31 days
Maximum number of outstanding loans permitted at a time - 1
Permissible number of rollovers - 0
Repayment plan - Available
You are being overcharged. Here is my advice.
1) Call your bank and ask to speak to the branch manager. Let them know your current situation. (Stick to the facts, not the emotional strain) Ask them if an ACH debit will reopen an account you have already closed.
1a) If an ACH debit can reopen the account, don't close it. Rather, transfer the funds to a new checking account to open and put the old one on deposit-only.
1b) If an ACH debit cannot reopen the account, close that sucker.
2) Do either 1-A or 1-B and then send a ACH revocation letter to the lenders in question. Search the forums here and obtain a mailing address, fax number and a customer service e-mail. In your letter, cite the laws in the state of Florida that the companies are in violation of. Since you've had the loans going on three months, they are well in violation if your rights and you've paid well over the principal amount of the loans. You are technically due a refund.
