Sued by Citibank through Blatt, Hasenmiller.....

A few questions.
1) They filed it in a county that I have not lived in in over 6 years, it is more than 2 hours away from where I live now. Will I have any luck getting the case thrown out if I dispute the jurisdiction? Or will they dismiss and re-file in the county in which I live. Could buy me some time though.
2) are they more or less likely to settle now that suit has been filed? Will I get a better or worse settlement now.
3) The Lawyer is in Chicago. Is there a chance if I show up for court, drive the two plus hours, that the lawyer doesn't show up. Or will they likely have someone their who is local.
Thanks and any advice you can give me would be great

You probably should consult an attorney. If you answer the lawsuit, then you probably consent to the court's jurisdiction. I don't know the law in your state, but you might be able to file an answer saying that court does not have jurisdiction. Again, you need to consult an attorney.
Or you could call the lawyer and discuss a settlement. I would offer 30% and go from there. You probably can settle for 50% to 70% of the balance.
I would add, if you don't answer they might get a default judgme
I would add, if you don't answer they might get a default judgment against you, so you need to consult an attorney or settle.

and I would clarify that they WILL get a default judgment if you fail to answer the initial or subsequent pleading. You need a lawyer licensed in the jurisdiction.

Since you NEED a lawyer, get one and then ask him to attempt to settle. Most lawyers will just charge for the phone or court time.
