Journalist seeking interviews on personal stories about debt problems/foreclosure
Date: Wed, 08/18/2010 - 07:35
The book will address how big distortions in the global financial system have undermined ordinary hardworking people everywhere. And in trying to raise awareness of these issues, it will argue for an internationally focused reform agenda.
I would prefer to have people talk on the record, but if they feel uneasy about that, we can use pseudonyms. If you fit the bill and would like to tell me your story, please email me at
Kind regards,
Michael

I'm sorry, but that's just plain wrong. Since you are a moderator, Frogpatch, I'd greatly appreciate your retracting your posting. I appreciate that it was an honest mistake. But you've done some damage to my reputation. Please read my response below. I can assure you I am very much a bona fide reporter.
I am a full time reporter with Dow Jones and the Wall Street Journal. (I previously excluded this information, because this is a private book project and did not want to involve them. Now I have no choice.)
I write a regular column on financial affairs. Try these links from this week for starters (You'll need a wsj.com subscription to read the full article, but you'll see my byline at the top of it):

And I am the author of previous book: chesafterlife.com
My current book will be published by Crown Books of Random House.
I have been a journalist for 15 years. I am quite shocked to have someone suggest otherwise!
Now, if anyone wants to call me and is interested in participating in this valuable project they can reach me at the offices of Dow Jones and the Wall Street Journal. My direct line is

I think that as a journalist a better article would be about pay day loans and how these illegal lenders are out there preying on peoples vulnerability. If you look at the pay day loan forum and you read some of the posts you would be amazed, angered, and saddened by the things that these illegal lenders are allowed to get away with. I think this would be a great article and would provide so much insight to people who are in the dark about these types of loans. Its a living hell when you become wrapped up in this viscous cycle!! That would be a great story!

Mr Casey is exactly who he says he is! I have followed up on him and owe him an apology! He recently approached me regarding an article I wrote on PDLs and was, at the time, writing just such an article as ballplayersmom suggested! I was skeptical as I am always having collection agents and payday lenders trying to get contact info from me! I could not find info on him so I though he was another sham! Please realize that I have received threats of physical harm by certain people as my articles cost them business! Once again I apologize to Mr. Casey and retract in full what I stated previously!

OK I checked my old emails and the person who contacted me was indeed a person with an almost identical name but not this Mr Casey! I think I will drown myself in the bottom of a New Jersey scum pond!

Frogpatch,
Thank you for your honest and heartfelt apology. It was clearly an honest mistake. So please stay away from that pond scum!
In the meantime, the offer is still open to anyone who wants to share their stories with me...or for anyone who knows anyone in the Tri-state area who would be willing to cooperate.

Of course, I'll refrain from putting personal data on the forum. And I apologize for not having read the terms first. However, given that it's my privacy that's supposedly at risk for doing so, I would have thought that a more urgent matter might be to discourage people from being trigger happy with their defamatory statements.
Personally, I don't care about my email and office phone numbers being disclosed; they are on every article I write. It's all over the Internet, a matter of company policy.
In fact it's a fundamental to journalism: If people know who you are, the idea goes, they'll trust you. It is a real pity that my decision to be up front about that, and not hide behind some anonymous moniker, ends having the exact opposite effect because someone makes a claim on the forum that I am not who I say I am. Irony of ironies!
