Were do I start or just file Bankruptcy

I lost income and have been paying all but 1 line of credit, they now say they wont change anything because a 60 month payment plan has the same monthly payment that I need to make anyway, They suggested that I try credit counsling and see if I can lower other credit card interest rates and use the money saved to pay them.

I have 2 homes in another state , but no equity (both rented but income does not cover mortgages so my wife and I are making that up.
all bills are in my name only and she is worried they may try and get money from her
