Ok, so this is a bit off-topic, but I wondered if anyone here had issues with scan or telecheck. My husband is being harassed by I think it's scan, saying his DL# is linked to a bad check written states away from where we live, from a bank we never dealt with. They won't release a copy of the check or remove the information unless we pay.

How can we go about fixing this? There are some stores he can't write checks at and not only is that embarassing for us, it causes problems if he's out shopping on his own.

There are many people with my husband's name, it's very common both first and last, so it's entirely possible for someone to have the same name and a close DL#. Someone must have typed in a wrong number at one of the reporting stores, and now my husband is paying for their mistake! Instead of going after the address on the check and following that person, the company went with the DL#. We don't have $200 to pay for someone else's bad check!

Does anyone know what we can do to get this company to release the information they claim is on "our" check? Is there a database of all our bank records proving we never did business with that bank or had that account number elsewhere? They won't even tell us where the check was written to!!

This is disgusting us, and keeping us from rebuilding our debilitated credit.

Thanks to one and all that have good advice!

Hi preachers wife, according to my research, you can dispute 'telecheck' just like you can with anyone else. You can either write them a letter (which I would prefer to do, certified return receipt) or call them, and explain that you are disputing and want full validation of this account. You want the proof. Explain that you feel you are a victum of some type of fraud or major mistake here and you're not paying until they validate and show you the check your husband supposedly wrote. They can send you a photo copy of the check as validation. Once receiving it, and it does not, in fact belong to your husband, you should take it to your bank and explain the whole situation to them and see what they tell you to do. Theres several routes you can go with this, but first you have to be able to 'see' this check. Again, I wouldn't pay until they 'prove' it to me.
Hope this has been of some help. Shirley

Usually Scan does not collect. they should be able to tell you who the check was written to and when. Then followup with the merchant to see if they have sent it to collections or they still have it inhouse. Some places report to scan and telecheck, and what usually happens is that telecheck after a time purchases the dept and collects it. Scan, as far as I know does not collect, when a memmber merchant reports a check as being paid, they notify scan and scan removes it from their system. That said if you truly believe that either a it is a mistake on their part or possible id theft, fiel a police report and ask scan how to report a possible fraud/id theft and folow their statd procedure. You might wish to also check your Credit report incase there is an id theft or a fraud problem.

The inaccurate information should be disputed with the bank as FACTA requires all the banks to report information that is true. According to the clause (FACTA ??312(c)), FCRA ??623(a)( 8 )), the bank is either required to give the detail of this entry or remove it from your account.

It might have happened that someone else has written the check using your husband's name and now it is charged on you. In such a case, you have to download an Identity theft form from SCAN, fill the requested information and send it to the following address:

Deposit Payment Protection Services, Inc
Attn: Research & Resolution
7805 Hudson Rd, Suite 100
Woodbury, MN 55125
