Can I be sued??
Date: Tue, 08/24/2010 - 10:30
However starting Friday I started getting phone calls at work & home it is a guy names Carlos Rodriguez and also a woman named Betty Davis. They are rude and telling me they want to meet me somewhere to serve me with a court summons. They tell me that they have a bad check that was faxed over to their office. When I ask them who this is from they just say you need to call this number 877-491-5557. I haven't called the number yet. I don't write checks for anything but my rent so this would have to be from a PayDay loan. If they were going to serve me "papers" would they be calling me this many times.
Not only did they call me, but they also called my parents and left messages about it without verify that I lived there disclosing information about it. I haven't lived at home in over 15 years. They also called my brother who lives in California all the way across the country from me (he is a junior to my Dad so I am sure that is how they got his name), he told me his number isn't even published.
What can I do... should I just keep hanging up on them, will they eventually stop.

I called the number they say it is for a PayDay Loan from Impact Cash (which is not one of the loans I had). Do they change the names of the companies a lot?

Hi amy,
Let me tell you what you have faced. I'm 99.99% sure that it's a scam. No debt collector will call you and tell you at the first instance that you'll be sued. These companies buy old payday loan accounts and then use scare tactics to make innocent customers pay them.
It's no use blocking their number, they'll eventually find a way to call you. It's best that you ignore their calls. If they don't find anyone for their tantrums, they'll eventually stop. Best of luck and keep us posted...
Fyi......file a case against the number with your local police as they threatened you.

I filed a complaint with the FTC (which never has gotten me anywhere) & a report with the local police department.

do not be discouraged by the FTC.they need an ungodly number of complaints before they act.just know that in fact file complaints everytime this bunch calls.every little bit helps.
Just to give you an example of what these idiots will stoop to--
Just to give you an example of what these idiots will stoop to--- Got a call from some guy who could not even speak intelligible English saying that he was "officer somebody with the Federal Gvt." They were suing me for an unpaid internet PDL. Yeah, right. I told this loon that he DID not for the Federal Gvt. & promptly hung up on him.

I started receiving these calls 3 weeks ago from Betty Davis and Tasha Williams. They are threatening me, my parents and my place of employment. They are accusing me of writing fraudulent checks which is bogus. They told me to call 888-491-4009 and/or 877-491-5557 to resolve the issue. I also received a call this morning from 312-416-7501. I've had it. I'm fighting back and I am writing a certified letter to the Indiana and Illinois Attorney General (where I live and work), FTC and I am filing a police report. A few years ago, I did have payday loans out and one of them was from Impact Cash. Any address for this company?

I'm not sure if Impact cash is actually making the calls. I think a "collection agency" is making the calls on their behalf. I do not want to call the numbers (888-491-4009 and/or 877-491-5557) back fearing they will start harrassing me even more. I just wish I can find out the name of the company with these phone numbers (888-491-4009 and/or 877-491-5557). I would love to provide the AG office, the police and the FTC with that information. The IL Attorney General Lisa Madigan is warning IL residents about this scam so I am glad that IL AG is fully aware of it.
