RJM collection notice
Date: Tue, 08/24/2010 - 16:53
I have just received a collection notice from RJM Acquisitions requesting settlement on an overdrawn bank account that I have never owned. I received this notice too late to speak to them today, but I will surely speak to them tomorrow.
The request is for settlement of $80.90 at M&T Bank. I have never owned an account there. How do I respond to this? they appear to have my social security number. I don't know if this is a case of identity theft. Where do I start to combat this?

Send them a debt validation letter via certified mail with a request for return receipt. The debt collector cannot continue with collection process if they cannot validate the debt.
If they refuse to validate the debt, send a C & D letter. If they contact you after receiving the letter, file cases against them with the FTC, the BBB and your states' Attorney General.
