You might want to google "security clearance" and see what the background check involved. I know for "Top secret", the feds investigate all of the family members of the person. I don't know how credit or bad credit is taken into account.
I don't think you will have any immediate problems, but security clearance expires at some point, correct? If so, you might want to start credit repair as soon as you settle all of the debt.

I think it will all depend on the level of security clearance.
I think it will all depend on the level of security clearance. If it's badging to have access for airports and va hospitals you will probably be okay since they only want to make sure your background doesn't show criminal activity. But if it's working on sensitive information that could be sold like a computer programmer then that could be another issue.
