Found out when I went to purchase my home that I had some collections on my credit file. Found out that my ex-wife had used my social security as her own to open several accounts as her own. I had them all removed back in 2004, but now they have showed up again. These accounts do not show up on transunion or experian, but do on Equifax. When I call the collection agencies, they tell me the social I gave them does not match my name. That was the whole purpose for the call. Just want to see if I am missing anything that I should be doing.

1) File a police report
2) Contact all three credit bureaus and ask for the ID Theft "package", which is just a few forms
3) Fill out the package and send them in, and list the wrongful debts.

This should clear them up. If you want a simpler approach, just get a copy of your Equifax credit report and dispute all of those debts as "not mine". If they do not fall off your credit report, you might have to do the above steps for sure.

I have done all the above steps for many years. Everytime they send the account to a new collection agency, they run the social that she provided them and it returns to my credit file. Call collection agencies and explain the whole thing again, they send me more info to fill out. Just tired of this coming back every time I try to get credit somewhere.
