PDL mess in California

I stumbled across this forum, and I am so relieved to see there MIGHT be a light at the end of the tunnel, and I'm not alone in creating a mess with these pay day loans. I will save you my sad story and just get to the point . . .
I'm in California, and I have nine payday loans, quite a few of which may be illegal.
1) Avantis Financial (Tremont Financial) - The loan was for $500, and I paid $610. I think they are illegal? Am I eligible for refund?
2) MyPaydayAdvance.com - The loan was for $400, and I paid $360. If they are illegal, I should only have a balance of $40.
3) Elastic - I think they are legitimate, right?
4) Pay1day.com - The loan was for $400, and I paid $351.50. I should only owe them $48.50. But are they illegal? I can't verify this anywhere.
5) Ashland Financial (Crestwood) - The loan was for $300, and I paid them $540. I think they are illegal and should owe me $240.
6) Ace Cash Services - Loan was for $450, and I haven't paid anything yet. Are they illegal? Then I should owe them $450, only.
7) Check n Go - Loan for $255, I owe them $300 - they are legitimate.
8) Storefront (forgot the name) - Loan for $255, I owe them $300 - they are legitimate
9) Spot on Loan (Impact) - Loan was for $450, and I paid them $350. I saw they had a Desist and Refrain order in CA. So I figure I owe them $100. I emailed and got an immediate response saying they'd settle for $250. What should I do in this case?
I really appreciate any help you can give me. I tried to research as much as I could on my own, but I'm just not completely confident in my findings. Is it really possible to get a refund, or should I just focus on getting them to say my account is paid in full? If my account is closed and I'm offering to pay the principle, are they really going to still try to come after me for fees?
