Payday Loans of America question

I sent them a letter earlier today (using a modified template I got here) mentioning them not being legal in my state, how to contact me for any remaining principal balance, blah, blah, blah....
Just a few minutes ago, I got an e-mail reply from someone at PDL of America and he sounded almost offended that I would "claim" they are illegal. Was the information I was given incorrect? I'm hoping that maybe yes... they are legal, just not in Illinois, and this guy is just trying to scare me or doesn't figure I've done my homework or something.
And does it really matter what he thinks anyway? I've already revoked my ACH authorization, opened a new bank account and am just waiting for one check to clear my old account (which will happen by Monday 9/13) and then the old account will be closed - their payment isn't due to hit until 9/17.

Donna66-I just sent Payday Loans of America last night the C & D letter, borrowed $350 and paid 262.50 in rollover fees and Tim the manager responded to me first thing this morning. I revoked the ACH etc and told him that I will be willing to pay the remaining $87.50 to cover principal by money order and he provided me with the address, promised no debits will take place this friday(i have a block through my bank) and once he receives the money order he was to send me a Paid In Full letter. It was very pleasant so far but I also did not use the whole template threatening them in anyway just that they are not legal in California etc.
