I keep getting calls from some criminal investigation company that says I am going to jail for not paying back an internet loan.
I have paid off every loan I have ever gotten. Of course, they can not provide me with any information as to when the loan was taken out.
Should I keep ignoring them since I know I do not own anyone any money?

Continue to ignore them. I ahve bee ngetting these calls for about two years now. They get your info from previous payday loan applications over the internet. What is intersting about this scam is that all the calls are from different phone numbers, butthe script is the same. Granted the name ofthe caller and company are changed but the message left is always the same.

I am cent percent sure it is a scam. The words 'criminal investigation', legal investigation are, more often than not, associated with illegal scamsters. Don't pay heed to their calls. Contact your service provider and check whether they can block the number. Also, you can file a case against the number with your local police authorities.

I have gotten a couple of these calls from a guy with a very strong indian accent that changes his name and number every time. First it was Edward Jones and this week it was David Smith. Both times I have googled the phone numbers and there are tons of scam alerts on whoever this is. I highly doubt someone with that strong of an accent is really "David Smith". I simply told him to quit calling me (they called my work also) or I would call the police on him. He simply said "ok" and then hung up. I got one about 4 months ago then nothing until last week and they also called this week after I told them I would call the police. Though it is a different number this week, I am sure it is the same guy. I am sure this must be what you are getting also. Just tell him you know he's fraud and to leave you alone.

Don't know what can actually be done to stop these morons if they're located in other countries, but report the calls to your local authorities and when the scammes call back, just hang up on them or let them know that YOU know they're phonies. Or you can do what I do once and a while. Tell 'em to hang on a minute and then just set your phone receiver down and walk away for a while. Hey, fair's fair, if they think it's ok to waste MY time, I figure it's ok to waste theirs.

When I was receiving these calls about this time last year I read online that the Secret Service is responsible for investigating illegal banking activity so I called the local office. I spoke with an investigator who said this was definitely a scam. He took down the number they called from an told me if they continued to call to inform the local police department on a claim of harassment. The last time they called to try and convince me a lawsuit had been "downloaded" against me I informed them I was an attorney and if a lawsuit had indeed been filed I expected to be properly served before I would respond. They hung up and I have never heard from them since.
