calling a friend about my ex husband

I would like to know how they got my friends phone number asking for him when i have been divorced from him for eight years and she never met or knew him. She only knew about his name from conversations with me. when they called her tey said he used her as a reference. I have no idea how they could of gotten her number as i never knew her when i was married to him and he has never met her nor have i spoken to him in eight years and i have only known her for the last 3 years. what the heck is going on?
