Advance Me Today Problem
Date: Thu, 09/16/2010 - 17:10
I went ahead and put the block anyway but now what do I do? I've paid Advance me today a total of $270 in rollover for a $300 loan and I'm sure tomorrow they are going to debit the $390. Can I dispute this with my bank as I never authorized for them to debit 390? I didnt want my bank to go into the negative so I put money in from a cash advance to deal with right now! Advance me today is out of Costa Rica and they told me that they do not follow state law but federal law when i chatted with one of their reps on Monday over their site.

What state are you in? The loan is probably illegal so all you would owe is principal.

i'm in california, i cannot close the account for personal reasons. they did take the full $390 out of my account so they got $360 in interest for a $300 loan for 6 weeks. is there anything i can do to get that back?

They aren't a licensed lender in your state, CLICK HERE to find out how to deal with illegal lenders.

I honestly need someone to help me... I dont know what to do about this Advance Me Today crap. I know it was my own stupidity for actually thinking something like this was ok. I'm scared and I closed my account I just dont know if they can legally come after me? Is this really a fraud? Is it ok for me to ignore them?! I am desperate and need some answers :*(

I've also sent the letter above twice and have not heard anything back from them... the only response I get from them is when they send an e-mail telling me what I owe them now...
You must file the complaints against this PDL with your AG, FTC
You must file the complaints against this PDL with your AG, FTC and BBB in CA. Then send copies to Advance Me either by email, fax or usps. Demand a refund for the money you've paid over and above the principle balance. Also be sure to withdraw any wage assignments. Since you can't close your bank account, make it a deposit only. A block never works, because the PDL will use different amounts, so it's a waste of money. But honestly, the only way to keep them from accessing your bank account and for you to have piece of mind is to close your account. I had to do that very thing, it wasn't easy because I have payroll direct deposit and my husband has his monthly annuity payment, but we took the advise of this forum and we are payday free!
Debt Samaritan, Thank you so much for your response. I will send
Debt Samaritan, Thank you so much for your response. I will send the copy of the letter to those other agencies because when I sent it twice to Advance Me Today I didnt send it out to the BBB and everything I just did it to Advance Me Today. Ugh I am so stressed.

What state are you in? It's important that you let us know because each state's payday loan laws are different. Are you the original poster of this thread?
Nah, they can't come after you, since payday loans are prohibite
Nah, they can't come after you, since payday loans are prohibited in your state the loan contract is not enforceable. They might sell it off to a bottom feeder collection agency but you have the FDCPA to back you up so the most that will happen are threats and harassment.

Hi Shazzers, I've often come across terms and conditions associated with pdls which seemed inexplicable. I'd often wonder why in some states you'd obtain a license for such businesses and in some you don't.
