I was offered 60% settlement with Chase today for two cards 135 days past due. Total balance is $15,300.

What should I counter with? I can't pay 60%.

I suggested 20, with the hope that they might counter with 30 or 40 and she could either take it or counter again with 30. Good luck to you, stretched. I hope you can get a settlement you can afford. Also, keep in mind the portion of your debt that is written off you will have to claim as income come tax time.

Hi all,

This is my first posting and need your suggestion...
I owe $18k to discover for about 170 days now and i want to settle with them but they are saying that i don't qualify for settlement since the money was transferred directly to my checking acct 2 yrs ago. They are offering me their hardship program with 0.99% of interest with a monthly payment of $365 and waive the late fee/high interest. They also said that if i don't make decision by the end of this month my acct will be charged off and then goes to the attorney's office to process a judgment against me.

What should i do? Any suggestion will be very helpful.

Thank you..

Any suggestion

They deposited 18k into my checking acct when I accepted their promotional low % transfer balance in the past. I guess it's kind of cash advance with a low % plus a transaction fee. However, It's really makes no difference whether i used discover cc to purchase merchandise or use their promotional check advance money.

I don't know why this makes any difference to them not to do a settlement.
