Help! PDL trouble

I defaulted on a payday loan...I closed the account it was coming out of and they tried to take the funds to take another payment and therefore was sent back to them. I have not recieved a call until today at my work. I was harrased me the guy on the phone telling me if I did not pay today then he was going to send a deputy to my work to have me arrested. He said he was a invest & worked for Addison Patrick out of Duval FL. The company that he was was requestin the money was knox ventures which I don't recall tht even being on. The ohter was DJR Group...which I did not even apply for and the moeny just showed up in my account. It all sounded crazy to me & honestly scared me. I finally gave in & gave him my cc info to pay $1000 when I get paid...which is all my money. I got off the phone & my co-workers said I could not get arrested and should stop payment on the payment arrangment I made. I could not find any of the information on line of where he was calling from nor the company knox ventures. Any help work be great to hear. Did I do the right thing?

Now that I have stopped the payment they are going to call me back & harrass me. I don't know what to tell them.

I def learned my lesson


You can't be arrested for owing a debt, that is a civil matter, not a criminal one. We need more details before we can plan a course of action for you.

First of all, please list the following information so we can help you.
-Names of each pdl company.
-Whether they are store front or Internet.
-How much you borrowed.
-How much you paid so far.
-The state in which you reside.

What state do you live in? Who are your defaulted PDLs through? How much did you borrow? How much was debited from your account before you closed it? Your loans may not even be legal. You may have already paid them back and may, in fact, be due a refund. Your co-worker is right. Debt is a civil matter, not a criminal matter. You can't be arrested or jailed.

I live in Maine

There are 2 payday loans....1 was thru DJR Group for $250 ( I dont even know where this one came from. They were paid $75.00...out of my account & they they kept taking money out when my account was neg which was digging me in a deeper whole...the bank sent back the ACH debts back to DJR.

2nd one is thru extra cash for $400.00 - $120.00 was paid to them & then the rest were sent back for NSF

These were thru the internet

Follow the guidelines at the link I gave you above. Yes, they will most likely harass you but if you feed into it and talk to them it will only encourage them to call MORE. They will tire sooner talking to thin air then someone to argue with, hang up, don't speak to them at all, only communicate via email. Read the link I gave you, you will gain some insight on how to handle this situation. Read what others have posted about dealing with illegal lenders, then you will have a better understanding of what to expect. I would also change my home phone number if it were me.

either way,but just know these places are nothing more than criminals.if you wish to inform them that you know all about them,and have reported them.make it short and sweet.then hang up and repeat as needed.also file a police report for the calls as they broke the law in threatening you.that t me should be the first,or one of the first things you do.
