being sued by Calvary Portfolio over HSBC card balance

my parents told me that a few days ago someone came by their house to serve me papers, I guess I'm being sued for $800 by Calvary Portfolios for a card I had with HSBC that I defaulted on the $300 balance. My dad gave them my address, but I have yet to be served the papers even though it has been over a week now (I checked online and the lawsuit was filed on the 15th). I live about an hour away but I still thought I would have been served by now. I work on the weekends in my parents town, and I'm a little worried I'll be served at work (I work at a restaurant on the weekends).

So I've got two questions: does it usually take this long to be served, and will try to do it at my apartment before they do it at work (and is it at all possible to pick these papers up somewhere and not sit around waiting for them)? And is it common to be sued for $800? I was shocked at the amount as my balance was under $300 but I was so far behind on other bills when I defaulted I hadn't really paid attention to what late fee's and interest had brought it up to. It seems kind of crazy to be sued for that small amount, I have another card that has been in collections for a longer amount of time and is a far greater amount but have not been sued yet (I'm not making payments on it right now though).

Any thoughts or advice would be very helpful!


I had the same cituation with HSBC I live in a duplex and when the renter next door moved,
I was offerd his apt. and moved into that,I am retired so this MAY not aply to you. BUT
I could set on a balcony and watch the server come an go. He never once knocked on
my door to inquire..and never ask any neighbors where I am at I live on a seclude dead end street with only two neighbors at the intersection.
This is still on going for the last 18 months.
So I decided to let it be...except I am afraid extra charges will go up,for when I do settle. :(

Hi,
Just to let you know, i was sued by the same. You are actually being sued both companies!
I owed 400 and was sued for 1600 by the time it was done. in MO we have a 9 % per month interest fee of the balance the judgment is for. if you have not been to court, try to have a plan in place when you go. it helps the judge to see why you did not pay and if you can afford payments in the future. if not, be prepared for a wage garnishment 90 days after judgment is granted! HSBC will not stop til they get all their money. I learned the hard way, don't be ME!! it does not matter if they did not serve you they served your parents which is legal because they are related to you! that is what the judge told me when i argued that fact!! GOOD LUCK!
