I recently started getting calls from debt collectors for over due credit cards.

I spoke to them and asked if they could prove I owed the debt.

I do have cards with them but my wife is also listed on them and she had always paid all the bills I never even seen a bill.

Well She past away suddenly and now I get these calls demanding payment.

Saying Iam over a year past due and asking me to make payments using my checking acct. or debit card.

I asked them to verify the debts in question and they all said they could not but gave me the name of the creditor they are collecting for.

I told them I would not do anything until I could verify the debt.

What should I do next I keep getting calls several times a day I even have to turn off my cell phone at work.

Did they sent you anything in writing? As per FDCPA, they need to send you a collection letter within 5 days of initial contact. Once you get the collection letter, you should ask them to validate the debt in writing. Send the debt validation letter in a certified mail with a request for return receipt.
