CashNet - Bad Check Charges
Date: Mon, 09/27/2010 - 08:36
Every 4 or 5 months I get a call from a new debt collector about the same account. I usually fax them the paid letter and they go away. Friday night (at 10:44 PM) I got a call from Commonwealth (877-397-9099) supposedly in Georgia. The man I spoke to said it was still an open account and that it was now up to $3000. After much arguing where I insisted that it had been paid, he eventually transferred me to a Diane Ruffina in their legal department. She said according to her information (which the other guy didn't have access to) that the account was paid, but that CashNet was filing 2 bad check charges against me and would I like to settle to get these charges to go away. She wanted $1500 - I told her I would go to court.
My question is - should I worry about someone actually filing bad check charges against me or is she just trying to get money on a closed account?

Sounds kinda fishy to me. Did you go through CashNetUSA online
Sounds kinda fishy to me. Did you go through CashNetUSA online or was this an Advance America storefront? If it was online, you didn't even write an actual check so, I don't see how they could report you for such a thing. If you have a letter from the CA showing the account is PIF, I don't see how they could come after you for additional funds either.
they can't it sounds like commonwealth is trying to get extra $$
they can't it sounds like commonwealth is trying to get extra $$$$.first contact cashnet and inform them that their bottomfeeder is threatening illegaly.btw this piece of garbage is threatening you with a crime which is a crime itself.i would file a police report for the call and then file AG complaints against commonwealth.do not pay them another dime, and try not to talk to them further.

It was CashNetUSA online. She is also telling me that it is 2 bad check charges, each for $710.50, made on two successive days - essentially the same check which CashNet tried to put through my bank twice.
You never wrote a check so, you can't be reported for a bad chec
You never wrote a check so, you can't be reported for a bad check. They're just trying to get more money from you. I'd tell them you already have a PIF letter and do as Paul said. Call CNU's corporate offices, tell them you have a PIF letter and tell them that their CA is calling you and trying to extort more money from you.
again not only was no check written, but stating you were charged
again not only was no check written, but stating you were charged with a crime they wouldn't call to state that.let cashnet know this.then follow my post above.

I'd just call the customer service number on their website and ask to speak to a manager.

Dont do it I had someone contact me saying that I owe a debt as well with commonwealth and I needed to send a person to person Western Union to a guy that is suppose to be a lawyer. After doing some calling and research I was told that Commonwealth has been out of business for 2 weeks as of 10/04/2010 and I guess they are taking advantage of old accoutns and taking folks money. The rerpresentatives are rude and couldnt understand that sending money to a person is simply sending money to a person and not the business. This company has scam written all over it. DONT SEND THEM ANY MONEY call CASHNET and see who they sold your debt to and go from there.
