Nelly:
FIA offered to settle my account with them for 50% of my balance instead of dealing with it through a Debt Settlement agency that I recently enrolled in.
Is it wise to take this offer? Thanks!

Why are you using a debt settlement agency? It is so much cheap
Why are you using a debt settlement agency? It is so much cheaper to do it on your own!
Do a search of the forum....see what other people are settling for.

It depends on the amount you owe. I owed them $40k so it would not have been good for me. If you owe them $4000, it is an ok deal.

I settled with FIA/BofA for 26% directly with them. Balance owed was $48k and they were pretty cool to deal with. I just kept in touch with them and was honest from the beginning.
I was fortunate to have a relative to help me come up with the money.
Just call them once per week and update them and stay true to your offer. Ask them to accept 25-35% on the balance owed and stick to it.
My settlement was agreed upon two days prior to being charged off.
good luck...
