This site has been very informative but I'm still a bit confused on some things...can someone help? First, I'm reading conflicting information about what some are saying are illegal payday loans in Texas. What is the best and true way to find out which ones are illegal? I have about 10 outstanding. I have the two websites that I've seen posted where you can search but I'm not finding some that I know are legal. I just want to be sure who is and isn't before I start sending letters. Also, when closing a bank account why is it recommended to open a bank account at a DIFFERENT bank? Why not use the same bank if it's a new account? Thanks for all the help.

There are two sites, one for legal PDLs in TX and one for CSOs in TX. You have to be diligent when you're searching because many go by several different names. Also, it's sometimes recommended that you open an account at a different bank because sometimes, if you open an account at the same bank, they will be linked, which doesn't solve your problem. If you tell us who your lenders are, we can help you determine who is and who isn't legal.

These are the ones I'm unsure of in Texas:

Instant Cash USA
Pay1Day
Paychecktoday.com
Magnum Cash Advance
Speedy Cash
Cash Central
First Cash
Pay Day One

I do find some names that are similar but I don't think it's the same company. Thanks for the help!

PayDayOne is a CSO and is legal. They also offer an extended payment plan if you haven't yet defaulted. Call them up and ask them for it.

Cash Central is also a CSO and is legal. Call and ask if you can make payment arrangements with them.

Instant - not licensed
Speedy Cash - not licensed
Paychecktoday - not licensed
Magnum - not licensed
Pay1Day - not licensed

Is that First Cash Advance?
