Asset Acceptance has been trying to collect a false debt from me. I never owned the debt - I figure they're actually looking for someone with a similar name to mine. They have my real name, address and phone number, but have the last four digits of a social security number that isn't mine. Can they look into any of my credit reports without my correct ssn, just by giving my name and address? I've already checked my Experian about a month ago and there was no sign of them; I can't look into the other two until a year has passed, without incurring a fee.

I don't know if they have my DOB - it's never shown up in either of the documents they mailed me. Yes, I disputed the debt, sent a DV and a c&d, all by CCRR mail. They persist in calling my house everyday and leaving silent voice mails or just hanging up. I've logged more than a dozen calls since they received my c

&d. I've reported them to both the NJ and MI attorney generals. Now I've read on this forum that they have the legal right to contact me by phone one last time after the c&d, even though I specified that they not do that in my letter. This is very frustrating, as I can see nothing good coming from holding a conversation with them. They're snakes.

The timeline: I received a few hangups from AACC's number. A few days later, I received a dunning letter. I sent a debt validation request, which they returned 5 weeks later, not really validating anything; it included the same info as the dunning letter, but with the incorrect SSN added. No documents or proof of debt from the OC. That's when I sent the c&d, which was in a letter I sent them explaining that the debt and the SSN were not mine. Now they keep on calling.

Yes, I sent the c&d certified and I have proof that they received it. I've been logging the calls, which are coming in at least once every weekday. I can't see a reason to answer the phone and speak to AACC; they've been told twice in writing that the debt isn't mine. I can only imagine that the purpose of their frequent calls is to harass me or try to bully me into paying a debt that doesn't belong to me. This has been going on for more than 90 days now. I guess I'll just sent another c&d - a simpler one this time. Certified, of course. I spoke to a lawyer's office and was told there would be a $300 to file suit against AACC, which I'd recover if they were found in violation of the FDCPA. I just hate to go through all that. I just want the friggin' calls to stop.
