Just a few weeks ago I checked my credit and found there is a unpaid judgement against me that I had no idea about. This judgement was grant a over a year ago and I had no idea. This is the only negative thing on my credit everything else shows I pay on time but it brought my score way down. After researching I found it was a medical bill in my husbands name from a surgery he had when we were going thru a separation. At the time I called the hospital and gave them his address and never heard anything about the bill again. Less than a year later my husband and I got back together. I called the collection agency and they said they put my name on the judgement because in the state of VA spouses are responsible for their spouses bills. This bill was only in my husband name and sent to him. The judgement I never saw and when I asked they said it was placed on my door by a special processor hired by them and a copy was sent to my physical address. I don't have a mailbox at my house address and they know my mailing address is thru a post office box. I never saw a judgement on my door. If I knew this bill still existed I would have made sure it was paid and if I knew there was a judgement I would have gone to court to fight the judgement. I paid the judgement and they said they would remove the lien. I didn't know about this until she said it would be release once payment was recieved. I feel I didn't get my day in court? Do you think I have a case? How do I fight to get this removed from my name and off my credit? Help!
