I received a call from Portfolio Recovery Associates tonight. They were calling about two accounts, one from 1995 and one from 1997.
They told me the account number, amount owed and company name. I am completely unfamiliar with either of these accounts. I asked for them to please send me information regarding both accounts and was told "No, we have sent you bills in the mail before and they've been ignored. It is our company policy to not send any more documents without a payment." I then said, "It's my personal policy not to pay a debt I have no knowledge of."
She then began to yell, asking me if I was refusing to pay and the call was being recorded, the Judge would love to hear me say I refused to pay. I then informed her that I was disputing these where my accounts, not refusing to pay them. Also, the statue of limitations had expired on both accounts so no Judge would be hearing anything. All I wanted was some proof they were mine. She again refused to send me anything.
Immediately after this phone call I checked my credit report and there is nothing on there that I am not completely aware of. Nothing even close to what she was claiming. My question is how can I get them to send me information. Debt validation letter? verification letter?(what's the difference?) Does anyone have a sample of a good one because as you can tell, I am not very good at writing.
Thanks for the help.

Who says you are not good at writing? Certainly you are. Now, regarding your query, it's a classic case of junk debt buyers calling and harassing a wrong person to collect on a debt. Send them a debt validation letter asking them to validate the debt via certified mail with the request for return receipt. I don't think, they will be able to validate the debt.

Thanks but that letter seems to be disputing something on my credit report. These two debts are not one my credit report. I think I recall seeing one here before regarding sending proof of the debt, including the original signed agreement from the creditor, history of past payments and proof the are licensed to collect in my state.
