Hi Everyone,
I say that settlement is crazy only because of how different each company seems to handle things. Here is my situation -- all cards are about 6 months late:
* Chase ($7000) - has been recently sent to Weltman, Weinberg & Reis...not sure what to do at this point...I would like to work something out but now that it's at a law firm..not sure what kind of deal they will take.
* Citi ($18500) -- I just received an offer in the mail that they will accept $3600 (20%)! I am amazed that they sent it to me without me doing anything (except continuing to be late of course). I'm thinking this is going to be as good as the offer gets so should I jump at it?
* Citi ($11000) -- haven't really heard much from this one at all...considering doing a hardship program with this one since I don't have a lot of extra money to settle everything.
It's funny to me that the lowest CC is being the biggest pain...while the largest is being the easiest to deal with. Just crazy.
Thanks for any advice...this site is a great resource and I am so happy to have found it!
Nicole

Yes, jump on the 20%, if you have the money. That's a wonderful offer. Have you received anything from WWR? I would go ahead and send them a settlement letter. If you can settle the $7000 at 25% ($1750), would you be able to make payments of $580ish for 3 months to pay it off? If so, I'd shoot for that. Then you could possibly get the hardship program on the other Citi card and save up some money to also settle that one.

That is because Chase sucks. They are unethical, do not practice per laws, and are a pain to deal with. I have personally just gone through some issues with them... Will never deal with them again if I can have a choice. Good for you on the Citi 20%. Take it and run. if both are Citi, see if they will also work with you. Good luck.

I am currently dealing with WWR too, please keep me posted on how your issue goes, we owe $4,500. I just sent the a DV letter because I felt the $4,500 they say is a little high, but I just want to pay them. Have they been calling you? I am chosing to not speak on the phone with them cause emotionally I can not handle it. After I get the DV I am going send the a settlement letter too.

Please keep us up to date

My plan is to talk with them on the phone...offer 15% (knowing that is low) but would like to settle for about 25%. I don't think I need to send a DV letter as I know this is valid debt.

When I settle, I am going to ask that they send the settlement offer in the mail and if that looks fine, I will send them a money order for the amount agreed upon and I am hoping to be done with them! I have read about them and they seem like snakes, so I am hoping this goes smoothly. Will let you know what happens.

Greetings "Debt Settlement is CRAZY! "

Jump on the 20%.....it just ain't gonna get any better that that on that $18,500.

That is a fabulous offer!

Chase (me down) was one of my easiest to settle, go figure.
Guess it depends on the moon phase or ?

Good luck on your journey and please keep us posted.

I agree - it's a terrific offer. You stand to lose it if you try to get them any lower. Citibank offered me 35% and I took it. I'm now negotiating with another CC so I needed to get Citi out of the way. Want to be completely debt free come February 2011. Just paid my last car payment today!

Dealing with WWR has proven to be difficult. I've called several days now and everytime, I can't get a real person. The receptionist puts me into several voicemails. Today, I called back after not hearing from them again and demanded that I talk with a live person...finally, I was connected with one of the lawyers and he did the typical speal about how they will be recording the call. I informed him that I too will be recording the call and he was shocked. He asked that I prove it so I played him the 30 seconds I had to that point and it was amazing to see how his attitude changed. He told me that he had to check on my file and that is when my phone call was mysteriously dropped. I called back and got a different lawyer this time...and decided not to mention that I was also recording the call. I explained that I had spoken to someone about a week prior and was told that the acct could be settled for 50% and that I was going to take the offer and be done with this whole mess. He proceeded to tell me that he had no record of that conversation and that the best he could do was 75%. So I explained that I had a recording of the past conversation and how difficult of a time I was having with trying to come to some solution with WWR and I was willing to settle right now. He looked some more thru my "file" and found the missing conversation and said he would have to submit it and call me back. So tomorrow, I am hoping to get a call back from them.

I sort of feel like WWR has more of a gain of not settling with the consumer...could this be true? It's like they are not even willing to talk on the phone which is odd. My plan is to call Chase tomorrow and see if a settlement request was given to them by WWR on my behalf. Hopefully this will be settled tomorrow! UGH

I am so glad you are being so demanding. I sent them a DV and it was received on 10/13 and I have not heard back from them yet. I want to settle too but can not pay all up front it would have to be in 3 monthly payments. UGH, Please keep me posted on your efforts.

To others here, Should I try to contact them in regards to my DV. I have proof it was recievedm or do I just wait and try to put money away?

Thank you

On a brighter note...I settled my Citi Universal (about $18k) for 20% yesterday! What a relief that is.

I'm jealous!! I settled for about 30-35%. Was it with Citi directly or a collection agency? Just curious. I have one more payment and I'm free of Citibank.

I did settle directly with Citi fo 20%. Really not sure why or how it was so easy...they just sent me an offer in the mail for the 20% and that was it. I understand the jealousy...I settled my Chase for 50% which really stinks when I see others settling for less...but really, I'm just glad to be done with this whole mess! I have one more Citi to go ($11k).
