Last night at 8:30 pm I received a call from Plaza associates asking about a Capital One collections that they received from Capital One and wanted to know how O wanted to take care of this debt. I let the agent know that I have not heard of them and the last I had spoken with Capital One, they did not know who the owner was as they had sold the account.
To make a long story short, I asked that they send me the required letter so I can look it over as I am not sure that this is my debt. He stated that they had sent out a letter over 2 months ago to a address that is over 5 years old. Luckily, it is someone I know living there so they will let me know once they receive the letter.
Are these people legit and should I work with them? I know that this account has gone from LVNV to some of their sister companies and now to Plaza associates.
Once I receive their letter, I will request validation as always but wanted to know if they are legit or not. He stated that if I setup payment with them, the debt will be over but I want to make sure they are he people that I need to pay as Capital One did not know who owned the debt after it was charged off and the last I knew LVNV Funding had the debt and they are the ones that are showing on my credit report as disputed.

never trust a collector over the phone.the fact that they had an address from 5 yrs ago tells me all i need to know.they can find your current address.you are entitked to a letter.i hope you told them that address is not your current address.they should comply with a request for another letter.their demands for immediate payment along with the address issue make me question their legtimacy.anyone,or anything even remotely connetced with LVNV i cringe.

excatly right.in fact it is a federal law that after initial contact they must send a basic collection letter.SOAPLADY is right about the phone dealings only to aserytain what the person or place wants.then you go fro there.never avoid if you can, however if the place calling is a bottomfeeder and breaks the law then report them, and avoid future phone contact.

How long after the initial phone conversation do they have to send the letter? Is there a time frame for Plaza Associates to send it? He stated they had sent one 2 months ago and that is about the time I first started getting calls from the 866-729-7135 number but this was the first time I was able to answer it.

I just realized last night when I was taking a shower that I have already paid this charge-off to Leading Edge Solutions and they sent me a letter stating that the balance has been paid. I hope to get the letter soon from Plaza associates so I can send them a copy of the letter that shows the debt has already been paid.
Here is a copy of the letter:

This letter serves as confirmation that Leading Edge Recovery Solutions will accept
$2,252.80 as a full and final settlement on the above referenced account.
The terms of the agreement are as follows:
$450.56 due by 10/23/2009
$450.56 due by 11/23/2009
$450.56 due by 12/24/2009
$450.56 due by 1/25/2010
$450.56 due by 2/25/2010
Once the settlement amount has been received, and the funds have cleared for payment,
we will then notify our client that the account has been settled in full and that your credit
bureau should be updated accordingly. You will then be released of any further liability
to CAPITAL ONE BANK (USA), N.A. / CAPITAL ONE BANK (USA), N.A. and its
agents in reference to this account.
This agreement is in effect until the last payment date listed above and is void if the terms
of this agreement are not met.
Sincerely,
Collections Department
(888) 306-9058

Hi All,
As of today, I still have not received any letter from Plaza Associates but continue to receive a daily call from them. when I asked them again to send a letter, they replied that they had already sent a letter and will not send another one. I told them that I would like a chance to look at the supposed debt before I made any decisions. thye again asked if I was going to setup payment arragements now. I calmly explained that I have not received any notice from them regarding any debt, only a phone call and by law they are required to send out a letter within 5 days of contact. the lady stated that they had sent out a letter previous to a phone conversation and I had not responded. I told her that is because I never received a letter and would not agree or disagree to anything until I had received the required letter. As of today, I still have not received a letter from them but get the daily call. Should I talk to them and tell them I will not discuss this with them until they have sent me a letter and to cease all further communications until they send it or just not answer the calls as it appears they are not going to send a letter? According to what the lady at Plaza said, the account was opened in 2000 and the last payment was made in 2004. I have checked my credit report and don't see the account listed on any of them. should I just not worry about it or what would your next step be?
Thanks,

I wonder if this is the same company that harasses me. Someone calls and wants to know your birthdate, your address, and today's date. This is so weird for a collection company to call and ask for such information before they can discuss their issue with you. If you answer the question they want to record your conversation. They refuse to give you any information as why they are calling you until you tell them the above information. This company is truly creepy.

I just received a phone call from Plaza Associates asking for someone I've never heard of. She then stated my phone number and asked for my name and how long we have had this telephone number, which by the way is over six years. I told her I would not give her any information until she told me who she was and what company she represented. I could barely understand her name but when she said she was with Plaza Associates I asked what type of firm it was. Her answer was "a financial institution". I told her she needed to be more specific and she just repeated "a financial institution". I informed her I didn't have time for games and hung up on her. I then Googled Plaza Associates and found out they're a collection agency.
