Do you have to deal with a debt collector by phone? Can you opt to use mail or email? Just curious because I keep reading that its best to not talk on the phone with them since they can get your emotions all up and its safer to settle in writting. Any suggestions?

Per the FDCPA, there is no such thing as a particial cease and desist. You cannot have mail only. Plus collection agencies wont negotiate via mail. You cease some of the bigger players, and they will just sue.
