I have recently been contacted by a company. I believe their name is Leading Edge..... They contacted and said we are attempting to collect a debt, call will be recorded, blah blah blah. The first phone call was end of Sept. I freaked. I probably gave them anything they needed if they were fraud. They said they were trying to set up payment arrangements or settle for an old account. When i asked them what account they gave me the name of a bank. I said, "Yes I had an account with them." I also gave them my current bank info from top to bottom. I verbally under recording agreed to let them ach debit my account. They offered for me to make a payment through western union before the date of the ach debit, b/c my account has a limit per day on all debit, credit, ach, etc. As it started getting closer to time to pay, I started freaking. I began searching the internet and came across this forum. I have been reading this forum for 3 days now, and was not aware that I had these specific rights.

Today I contacted them to tell them the funds were not available and the pushed back the draft for another week or so. I was gracious they were leniant in this as my child was hurt and cost me a small fortune in upfront medical cost last week.

also if anyone can help with this: the number the company gave me to call them back is 877-865-9823, I cant them by the number. Is anyone familiar with this number or is there some other way to get their true company name if there is some way to verify the company is who they say they are and represent said account? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My question is, Did I screw up by saying I had an account? Am I still within my rights to ask for validation? Do I send this mail as I believe that is what I have read? The settlement they were offering me is below the initial account although their number they told me is more than I remember from the account I am thinking about. If I do this do you think I will lose my payment arrangements and or settlement?

Greetings and welcome to the forum "hazmspazm81 ",

You can Google this number and here's one website.
You'll also find some alternate contact numbers;
888-306-0549 and others.

And now for some information on these guys;

My questions to you are;
What's the name of the old bank?
How much is the alledged debt?
How long ago was this alledged debt incurred, statute of limitations?
Did you close the account or was it closed by the bank?
Did you have any outstanding obligations at the old bank?
Have you contacted the old bank to find out what's going on?

If it were me.....and this is just my opinion.

I'd close my current account asap.
Open a fresh one at another bank.
I'd validate the debt.

Don't worry, others will offer more information.

Good Luck.
Please keep us posted.
