Plaza Associates called me today and said they are handling my account from Captial One. Do i believe them and pay them?

A debt collector should send you a collection letter via mail within 5 days of initial contact. Ask them to send it. Then, if you are not sure of the debt, send them a debt validation letter via certified mail with a request for return receipt.
They, then, will have to validate the debt in order to collect on the debt.
