I had a loan with this company and fell behind on it. My bank account for them is closed, and I just recently heard from a 3rd party collector for tyhem by the name of Hoffman Swartz & Associates, Inc. I tried to look up MMG in my state (Illinois) and could find nothing. The 3rd party collector is now making an arrangement for me to pay 2 installments of $150.00 ea, then a final payment of $250.00. The original loan was for $250.00
If MMG isn't licensed in my state, then do I have to pay this 3rd party collector this amount?!??
Here is part of what they e-mailed me:
***Hoffman Swartz and Associates has made the decision to file a lawsuit against you regarding and outstanding check drawn off of your Bank One account ending in xxx0565. We have agreed however, to accept two (2) installments one of $150.00 and final payment of $250.00 as payment in full.

If you know that the loan is an illegal one, ask the debt collector to validate the debt. They cannot do that if the loan is an illegal one.

Good idea wannabedebtfree! I'm going to send them that correspondence today or tommorow and see what they do. But, even if it is an illegal loan to begin with, won't they try to do something to make me think that it is?? Just asking b/c these folks can be shady and on the 'schnide' constantly.

The illegal companies will try to cook up many stories to make them look like the legal one. And they will force you to believe it. Don't pay heed to them. Hold to your ground, you will win.
