Allied Insterstate- Studene loans

I do not know wht to do. I have Allied Interstate callind daily if not weekly on my cell phone and i don't even get a number on called ID, which i found strange. I'm irritated because i did defult my student loans but not on purpose. They switched my companies mutliple times and didn't contact me of change, not even a letter saying so. I one day recieved a past due bill of 1 year in re-payment and then interest. I tried to make contact explaining that i didn't graduate in that year, i graduated later but i recieved the run around. My credit is severly messed up from this issue and now they're demanding a high sum of money and garnished my tax return from last year(2009) and i'm worried about this years income. I need help on what to do!

To continue...I also tried several times to defer my loans with the original company and they assured me i wouldn't be charged or recieve a bill of anything until that was over. I didn't hear from that company again. it was Sun...something(i can't remember exactly). The next contact i recieved was from Chase telling me that i was 1 year over due and demanded payment asap. I tried to get a payment set up and by the time i recieved word, they put me into collections and i've been there since. I graduated in May 2007 and at that time i was told i already had 1year of re-payment that was over due and immediately was passed to collections. (Allied) I've tried to resolve this recently and they asked fro a lump sum of 5,000 or 10,000...something outragous like that. At the time i was unemployed and i couldn't pay at all. i don't know what to do, please help me!
