I responed to an advertisement by a Gas station owner selling his Gas Station business at Danville, VA. The owner tricked me into paying $ 8000 in advance on a verbal assurance that in case I decide not to buy the business then he will return the amount. Fortunately, he signed a receipt. As I finally did not like the deal so I backed out of it but the owner is now making lame excuses in returning $ 8000 that I paid. I have filed a warrant in debt case against him at District Court, Danville, VA. The hearing is in 2nd week of Nov. I will show the receipt to the judge & explain the circumstances and reasons for my backing out of the deal. I have never appeared before a judge. How should I present my case and what are the chance of securing a fair judgement. Thanks in anticipation.
