They're vague because they're liars and scammers! In the state of N.J. payday loans are prohibited, so without even asking you I know that the only way you could have obtained a payday loan you either had to leave your state or obtained them via the Internet, therefore, if these loans were obtained via the Internet they are illegal and can not be collected, period. If you obtained a loan by going to a different state (store front loan) then you are obligated to pay it back. Either way, you should pay back at least what you borrowed, but that doesn't dismiss the fact that whoever called you broke the law by telling you they would have you arrested, because that is in fact a bold faced lie, you can NOT be arrested for owing a debt.
In all likelihood, this is a scammer calling you trying to scare you into giving out your personal account information, my advice to you is DO NOT admit to owing a debt to a voice on the phone, whether you owe it is irrelevant, you just never know who it may be on the other end of the phone.
So, I would not discuss this with them on the phone, I would hang up immediately and file complaints against them with your Attorney General's office, the FTC and the BBB. Obtain as much information about them as you possibly can so that your complaints will be detailed.

I know it's frustrating and scary, but you can't really stop them by telling them to stop, they won't listen because they don't care about laws. However, the less you talk to them then hopefully they will be less likely to continue to call, if you give them someone to argue with it becomes a game to them. File complaints, and let them know you file complaints, I'm not sure if that will affect them but it's worth a try, anyway, after you tell them you filed complaints tell them you have nothing more to say and hang up, then the next time they call hang up without a word.
Thank you once again. I feel alot better now. These payday loans
Thank you once again. I feel alot better now. These payday loans seem like such a good idea at the time but all this stress and unecessary stress is just not worth it.
