Hello! I want to know if any of you have received calls and/or messages from a (maybe supposed?) law firm of Sterling & Roberts. No number came up on my cell phone caller ID (it displayed Unknown) but the message says to call 877-904-1716 and reference a file number. The guy on the message says that I am being investigated for check fraud and I or my attorney had to call them and discuss the matter with them or they will file charges with "my county". Now they never said who their "client" was or what debt they say I have accrued and I have never received any kind of correspondence from them. I don't plan to call them, but what to know if any of you have contact information so I can send a validation letter. Any help is appreciated. Thank you all in advance!:)

I received a call from an unknown number. The voicemail left stated, " My name is John Temples calling from the Sterling Roberts Firm. I am calling in regards to check fraud charges being brought up against you. You have 24 hours to respond to this message. If you DO NOT respond within 24 hrs you will be served with papers either at your home or place of employment. Our office number is 877-904-1716 and my extension is 306"
This is the third time i have received this call. Twice on my cell phone and once at my place of employment. Co-workers DO CHECK MY VOICEMAIL....and now...they all think im being charged with check fraud whic is not the case.

I received the same phone call, as well - from a Mr. Sullivan with the Judgement and Claims division (?), asking for myself and my brother to investigate information on accounts of fraud from a client. I tried calling them back today and received a message system with 2 options - wage garnishment or summons. I have no idea why they would be calling...just thought I'd put it out there...

I just received the same phone call from this so-called attorney, John Temples. After being transfered and discontected when returning the phone call, the individual informed me I was being accussed of check fraud for a company I've never heard of or done business with. I asked for more information about the debt as I'd never hear of them before and was told wage garnishment was set to happen in the next week and the only way to stop if was if I set up a payment. I informed him he needed to speek to my attorney which he refused to do. I then told him I would have to, since I had no idea what he was talking about. He then quickly dismissed me and told me "good luck" and ended the phone call. Now, I've looked on both the BBB and done a google search for this company with no success of locating this company anywhere. Sounds like a scam. Am I correct in my thinking?

Hi,
We have been receiving phone calls from "Sterling & Roberts Law Firm" since October 2010 as well. I have asked very nicely to be removed from their list when I tell them that "no one by that name lives here". They either apologize and say they will remove the name or say, "pay your damn bills bitch", even though they are asking for a man. Tonight, I called back and requesting a supervisor, got put on hold/mute, got cursed out and then hang up. On the second attempt, of requesting a supervisor, I was placed on hold/mute - you can tell it's muted. I started "trash talking", then the "lack of" gentleman come right back on immediately. You can hear people laughing in the background while getting into heated discussion about the content of the call, then are hung up on. You can tell that the individuals are not educated.

I have researched the 1-877-904-1716 telephone number and there is another discussion thread out there about "Sterling & Roberts". Also, if it helps, we have gotten calls from "Sullivan & Randolph Law Firm" with a different 877 number, but the same contact names as "Sterling & Roberts".

The telephone company stated that we cannot block their numbers, but we are contacting the local police, State Representative office and Attorney Generals Office.

Have any of you done that?

Thanks,

Not2bCrossed

I have been receiving calls from Nationwide debt collectors for months because of a debt I owe and could not pay because I lost my job. They somehow found my ex husband's number, who lives in another state, and from whom I have been divorced for 25 years. They told his wife that I was about to be summoned to court for variouscharges. My ex called my children about the matter, and they are now really upset. When Nationwide called me again, I complained that they had no right to discuss my situation with my EX. They guy talked over me and would not listen. Threatened to have me arrested. I told him not to call again and to go ahead with whatever he had to do but that I was unemployed and could not pay the debt. Today Nationwide caller claimed to be on the way to my home or worksite to serve a summons from Sterling and Roberts law firm for various charges. So I have been nervous all day because I don't know if this is just a scare tactic or if they can really serve me. It seems to me that one cannot be arrested on a bad check charge for failure to pay a payday advance loan. Does anyone know the law in NC on this The caller left his number 866-765-0445 and left a case number

I have been getting same calls this time from Grady 18667650445 Sterling and Roberts Law Firm. April is supposed to bring me papers but I have yet to see them. She leaves a message for you to call her and then quickly transfers you to Grady. I've been called and threatened 3 times for check fraud charges on a cash advance I took in 2007. I am pretty sure its been paid. Sounds like everyone else has had same calls so it makes me feel better to know its probabley a scam.
