Hello! I want to know if any of you have received calls and/or messages from a (maybe supposed?) law firm of Sterling & Roberts. No number came up on my cell phone caller ID (it displayed Unknown) but the message says to call 877-904-1716 and reference a file number. The guy on the message says that I am being investigated for check fraud and I or my attorney had to call them and discuss the matter with them or they will file charges with "my county". Now they never said who their "client" was or what debt they say I have accrued and I have never received any kind of correspondence from them. I don't plan to call them, but what to know if any of you have contact information so I can send a validation letter. Any help is appreciated. Thank you all in advance!

Will do paulcahill! Honestly, how can you take someone seriously if they can't be bothered to show their real phone number on caller ID? I am a receptionist where I work and I usually put any bill collector that calls for any of my coworkers on hold as long as I can get away with it. Not too professional I know, but they shouldn't be calling people at work. And my coworkers know how I feel about third party zombie collectors.

I tried Bud Hibbs' site and hadn't found anything about this "firm" on his site.

I just received the same phone call from this so-called attorney. After being transfered and discontected when returning the phone call, the individual informed me I was being accussed of check fraud for a company I've never heard of or done business with. I asked for more information about the debt as I'd never hear of them before and was told wage garnishment was set to happen in the next week and the only way to stop if was if I set up a payment. I informed him he needed to speek to my attorney which he refused to do. I then told him I would have to then, since I had no idea what he was talking about. He then quickly dismissed me and told me "good luck" and ended the phone call. Now, I've looked on both the BBB and done a google search for this company with no success. Sounds like a scam. Am I correct in my thinking?

We have been receiving harassing phone calls from Sterling & Roberts as well. Started back in October 2010. When I call back to say that there is no one here by that name or that this is a brand new home and phone number, they curse and hang up. Or better yet, when you call back, they say "pay your damn bill bitch" and sometimes even met with some very disgusting sexual remarks and people are heard laughing in the background. I am not sure how to end these call either! I am going to contact my attorney.

Most likely these people are sitting in at a call center in a prison somewhere.

I got a call from a Jessica Roberts from Sterling Roberts. The number she gave me was 866-637-5092. I have received numerous calles from them. At first they said that I going to served a summons for attempted fraud. (Which as you may know is illegal). However, the call I got from today was to tell that they would be serving me with a wage garnishment order. I gave them the name of the debt consolidatioin company I'm working with and they called me back telling me that the company was a scam and that they weren't paying the accounts off. They wanted me to find out the account number for the original payday load debt because the debt consolidation company would not give it to them. Then she backed way off.

I have contacted the BBB and they said this company does not exist. I also contacted my ATTORNEY GENERAL's OFFICE and gave them the information but they could not do anything about it unless we have a legit address. Then I called the [FEDERAL TRADE COMMISSION and told them about this issue and they told me it is also a SCAM and they will send my complaints to the law enforcements that deals with these types of problems.

You must call the FEDERAL TRADE COMMISSION (1-877-382-4357)

These are the people that need to be found.

You need to call the Bar Association to verify if they are legit or not. And check them out with the Better Business Bureau. This is a well known scam. Rule of thumb on anyone that calls collecting debt...ask for proof in the mail and do not pay until you can verify the proof provided.

I have gotten calls from them too and they gave me a different phone number I think the is a Scam too. I called my attorney too and even they said it is a Scam. Like you said, they don't even show their phone or contact info. I'm glad to see I'm not the only one dealing with their crap...There is Safety in Numbers and I have no intention of paying them; I never heard of them either...We could probably band together for a Class-Action Suite against them...I think we'll probably have a case. Please respond with additional ideas.

Thanks ;)

Yeah I agree with you this company is a scam and we should "Sue" them. I am not worried about them because they can't provide detailed information or give straight answers; they can take a "Hike" until I have some "Real" proof of what they are talking about!! Do not be fooled, Scammers are a "Dime a Dozen" these days. They are all desperate for Our Money!

OMG!!!! OMG!!!!OMG!!!! I received a phone call yesterday from an attorney named Grady Clifton and he said he was from Sterling and Roberts and I called him back to get an address and he said it was 2801 University Blvd. Birmingham Alabama 25233. I called the Better Business Bureau and the Alabama State Bar Assoc. and there was no listing and they said it sounds like a scam. I was also told to notify your local police department and to call the Federal Trade Commission. They had my social security number and I had to report it to the credit bureau too. I have a question for anyone out there, did anybody take out a payday loan online at all. I am so sick of SCAMMERS, get a life and get a real job instead of taking hard earned money away from us. I just had to share this with all of you and hope it helped at all.

A lady said that she wants to deliver my summons either at home or at work. I dont even remember the payday loan. She said it was dated back from 2007 and she even had the last 4 digits of an old account number that I no longer have. The only thing the emailed me back was the court style document of a summons vs the company and how much I owed, and they even raised fees to 30%. Im a little worried, should I be?

I wanted to respond to all of you and state that I too have also been harrassed by these people calling me at work. The company that is calling me is called Nationwide Process Server. They say that it has to do with some check fraud, and thaty they will serve me at my place of work or home and that I am suppose to call the firm of Sullivan & Roberts or Sterling and Randolph. also this company has given me different numbers to call. also this process server place calls whenever they feel like it and that could be months, weeks or years. I did contact one of the companies and I talk to someone but they weren't help at all, I wanted information about them and also I wanted in writing what my so called debt was and the guy did not send me anything and refused and he was nasty on the phone and he refused to give me what my so called debt was. so should I file a complaint against these people? and who should I file a complaint too?
