I have 7 payday loans and live in MO. I am going to try and get a consolidation loan. I have also checked into Relief, LLC, but have figured out that they will be charging me almost $1000 just to help me...so, that scares me.
Here are the loans I have :
1. American Check Casher...it is in collections and the people that call me say they are with Money Mart. I owe them $535...but, have paid them thousands and thousand of dollars in interest in the years that I did business with them.
2. Loan by Phone (Check into Cash)...Currently owe $216.00
3. Check City...currently in collections...I owe them $597.33...I have a payment plan set up with them...but, haven't started it yet.
4. Star Loans...I owe them $295
5. Check n Go....I owe them $500
6. Cashnet.com...I owe them $253.13...payment plan set up with them...only 3 payments left with them.
7. Speedy Cash...my newest...I owe them $356.25.

Only the first one was storefront...everything else was done on the Internet.

Please help me !!

Please specify which of these are store front lenders, and which are Internet loans. Meanwhile, you can check the data base below to see if they are licensed.
http://finance.mo.gov/licenseesearch/
Store front lenders are usually operating perfectly legal, if you don't see their name in the licensee data base don't jump to conclusions and think they aren't legal because they sometimes have a dba name or are registered as a consumer finance co. instead.

On the store front loans you have not defaulted on, there may be options for requesting an EPP or extended payment plan, just ask them if they are members of the CFSA, if they are request to sign up for the EPP, click the link below to read about the EPP and how it works:

Shazzers...only the American Check Cashers was store front. Everything else was done over the Interent. Were you able to find out if some of mine were legal or not?? I have already been trying to set up minimum payments and don't have enough money to do it this paycheck. I have NO idea what I will do. The consolidation place I contacted will only give me $2000, but they probably won't even do that because one of the companies has placed some sort of hit through Teletrack. The company has said they will write a letter saying that I intend to pay them off and that I have been a good customer since 2006 (yes, 2006)! Don't know if that will help or not, though.
If anybody has ANY idea whether any of my loans are illegal in MO...PLEASE let me know!

Ohiogal1 - I'm new to this forum. Does OP mean "Original poster"? Do you really think that some of my loans are illegal? Please elaborate...I need all the help I can get.

Paulcahill80 - Did you find out which ones were legal? I have tried searching for them on the MO Dept of Finance page. If they come up as a company...does that mean they are legal? Or, do they have to have a license number listed to be legal?

Hi triniskier,

Only those internet PDL companies, which have a license in the state of Florida are considered to be 'legal'. The problem is, a common man will never know where the internet PDL company is situated. So, I think it's better to curb our spending and maintain a frugal lifestyle so that we never fall into a situation where we would need the help of PDLs.

This is what I am following now and i am happy.

Stay away from payday lenders! I know when problems arise and it seems as though there is no where else to turn that a PDL is the only way to go. This is a cycle you don't want to get into. It has cost so many of us in this forum so much money, heartache, having to close bank accounts, etc.

OK...I just went to the Check City website and logged in as me. It said the following on the page I was on : Check City is licensed by the Missouri Division of Finance.
When I clicked on the MO Div of Finance link...I couldn't find Check City listed. I realize if they are illegal in MO...what difference would it make to them if they put incorrect statements on their website. Of couse, when I logged in as me, they also know that I live in MO and can put any statement they want on there. If anyone has ANY infor about Check City...please let me know. Crossing my fingers that they are illegal.

Shazzers...I just looked at Cashnet's website. They have a copy of a State of MO certificate of registration. It has a renewal number of 500-11-4525 for the company of Cash America Net of Missouri, LLC. Nothing comes up if you type in their renewal number...but, if you type in Cash America Net of Missouri...a bunch of stuff comes up. Does this mean they are legal, after all??
