Ohhhh Comcast!!

Hopefully this is the right area to post this but I have a question.
I had been a Comcast customer for years and years...never a late payment never stuck them for a dime and I cancelled about a year ago. I recently moved and wanted comcast again and went online to get service.
I figured since I was such a great customer we would be a on a first name basis or something and they would be so excited to have me back :) and nowhere on any of the forms did it ask for my SSN or anything nor were there any waivers of rights.
You have to click on the live chat to complete the order and the agent asked for my SSN for "Security and Identification Purposes"
The agent came back to chat and said that because I was coming back to Comast I only had to pay a discounted connection blah blah blah and never once said he was running my credit or anything.
Well the next day my credit alert comes in my email that Comcast run my credit report. Well I am on major rebuilding right now and really trying to keep the hard inquiries down..especially from companies like this that I've done business with for YEARS!
I have a saved copy of the chat. I plan on sending them a letter to delete but are they obligated to? Can they run the credit for customers establishing new service without consent? It just seems so silly not to mention not very cost effective for them to be running all these reports.

No, they are not obligated. But yes, you can ask them why the credit inquiry was done without telling you anything during the call.

Comcast is one of the biggest ripoff companies I have ever dealt with. I called to disconnect service because I got a dish, they never did the disconnect and hence sent someone to my door to collect 212.00 for service I haven't used in 3 months. Several of my neighbors have had problems with them too. Just beware.
