Do mortgage companies reference Chexsystems? If so, I have a year or so to work on chexsystems issues but is it possible to resolve those problems?

Companies do refer to Chexsystems. Since you are just a year or so to work on Chexsystems, you will have to wait for atleast 4 years more. Chexsystems is a CRA and they will not remove you for 5 years.

But, you can refer to some banks which do not use Chexsystems and try to get a mortgage.

no they do not .. the only way they would see something that was reported to chexsystems is if it has also been reported to Equifax, Experian or Transunion
