I was contacted by a "legal division" today at work asking if I was aware of the issue that I owed a loan. I was told that in Oct 2007 I took a loan with United Cash Loans for $300 and it wasn't paid back. I explained that as I was at work I wasn't albe to speak to the matter and I'm to call them back after work today. I think this might be a follow-up from the beginning of the monthy when I got very rudely and harshly treated by a company stating I owed over $1000 and would be arrested and sued for $5000 if I didn't pay immediately. They wouldn't tell me at that time the name of the company or when the loan was taken out. After finding this site I sent them a letter asking for immediate paperwork for verification of the loan and never receieved anything. I have gone back into the records I have and do not have anything for this company or the loan. I did have another payday loan around that time that I did pay off. My ultimate questions are: If the debt is truely mine, then I do want to make good on it, but aren't I liable only for the amount of the original loan and processing fees? Also, is it still legal after three years to try to collect when I've received no notice of this prior? I'm in South Carolina. Thank you.

that is a perfect example of when you think you have paid off the loan in the past they send it out to someone to get more $$$$ from anyone who has payday loans.

Since coming on here i have learnt so much about payday loans and also credit card debt.

the one thing everyone can do is not use the internet for anything financial that can come back to hunt to

Thank you for the advice. I thought that was the case. I've just finished talking with them and toln' them I couldn't verify the loan and without paperwork being provided I wouldn't be able to acknowledge it. They said that the only way they could provide paperwork was to file in court and that they would call my work in the morning and make arrangements for my wages to be garnished. I told them that wasn't possible unless they were trying to collect taxes or child support and they said that was wrong and that they would be sorry when I lost my job. I'm hoping this is a scare tactic and plan on notifying the appropriate agencies in the morning. Am I on the right track? I'm a little leary to stand up to them as I definately can't afford to lose my job but at the same time I don't want to be paying money I don't owe.

united cash loans is part of MTE,and totally illegal.they can do nothing they threaten.in fact they told me that my AG,and THE FTC are wrong as well.just a bunch of stupid idiots.btw i find it ironic that an illegal in every way ipdl would even claim to have a "legal dept".file AG,AND FTC complaints as well as police reports for the threats.then hang up on them without another word, and alert your employer that a phony pdl will be calling as they will call, but as long as your are proactive you can save face here.

United Cash Loans hides behind an address located on Indian tribal lands in Oklahoma, where they have immunity from the law. As far as threats, etc., MTE, MNE, and their affiliates seem to be the worst of the PDLs. Do as paulmergel and others have posted, file your complaints and if they call, hang up on them. And if you did have a PDL a while back, it would probably be a good idea to keep a very close watch over your checking account in case this company tries to go after any money.
