okay first off---DING DING DING--500 posts (and still going)!!! GO ME!!!!!!!!!!! LOL

This is something different even for me. Husband has a collection agency on his report (Equifax only) that is for a medical bill of $55. I sat down last week and wrote them because to me, $55 is not worth it being a bad mark on your report over. I didn't ask for validation. I just asked was the debt still for $55 and stated that I wanted for them to agree, before me sending payment, that they would go back to the bureaus and report it as being paid-upon receiving my payment. I got a letter back from them yesterday and they sent validation. full validation. funny, I didn't ask for it but got it. While other collection agencies, I ask and get ignored! But all they included was validation, they wrote nothing personal to me saying they would report as paid once receiving my payment. Do I write them again or go on and send the payment? Shirley

Shirley,

Let me congratulate you first on your 500 posts. You are doing a great job here. Keep the good works going :D

Look, if they do not report it as paid, your purpose will not be served, right? IMHO, try to get it written. Send another letter and attach the copy of debt validation this time, so that they understand that you are not asking for debt validation.

Keep us updated about what is going on.

Oh, you've got to be kidding me!!!!!
We haven't heard from these people at all. The debt is a couple of years old. I found it while looking over my husbands credit report. I thought with it only being $55 dollars, I would pay it to get it off. I wrote them a letter, didn't ask for validation, just asked was the debt still the same amount as what is listed on the credit report? I stated that I wanted to pay it but needed for them to FIRST agree that upon receiving my payment, they will report it as 'paid' to the credit bureaus.

Not only did they NOT reply to my request (they mailed validation papers which I didn't even ask for--and nothing about what I did ask) but NOW they're calling me every day AFTER I put a 'do not call order' in my letter. owwwwwwwwwh! this makes me mad. (they never called before--guess I opened a can of worms)

"I" was the one that approached them about paying this off, now they get to harrass me over it!! what nerve! I am mad now. Shirley

This is a clear violation of fdcpa. You can report against them. Hope after so many days in this forum, now you know very well where to submit your complaints :D

I will stick to the process of negotiation. Have you told them over phone exactly what you want to get written as an agreement? How did they respond?

Call them if you can and try to discuss the issue with some one with higher designation.

What a bummer Shirley....I hate to see somebody who is taking every possible avenue to do the right thing, and you get runaround and dumb phone calls that you shouldn't be getting! Hopefully you will report them for doing that. I can't imagine they would argue with reporting it as paid...it's only $55!!! Good luck with this one :)
