does anyone have any info on this company? I just received a call from Chris Rogers about a loan I had with JHS, to which I did borrow $300 and paid back more than $800. I did my letters and hadn't heard anything until now, 1 year and 3mths later....

Are they really a lawyers group???

well being as JHS is illegal i doubt this place is legit.next time this chris rogers calls demand something in writing.inform him you will not speak to him abou this until he sends it.if he threatens you in any way,and by that i mean lawsuit, arrest, etc.if that happens then file a police report asap.keep us informed as this sounds like your typical bottomfeeder that tries to collect on illegal loans that are not owed.

Thanks for the responses. I did let him know not to call me at work and if they wanted any information from me they needed to give me info as well. Put me on hold "to speak with his supervisor" he gave me name but it all happened so fast I can remember it, and said I had all the info I needed when I took out the loan. So I again said the same thing and told him to call my cell or email me and not call me at work again and hung up...So I guess I will wait to see if he calls again and get my stuff in order until then.

This company has left a message on my voice mail. Sounds creepy. The number left by a male person with name of either Parnell or Darnell with a last name starting with a "W." The telephone number left was 888.497.4454. I am reluctant to return the call. However the information I garnered on the prior post regarding the "Peachtree Law Center" has been very informative. Seems from all I've read that I am within rights to information in the mail before talking with them should I decide to return their call.
Has anyone else got any tips?

Mr. Rogers just called the office again. I happened to answer the phone. He did not say who he was he just happened to ask for our Human resources dept. I told him we did not have one I asked what it was regarding he stated he just needed to verify employment (at this point I still had no idea who it was) I told him my supervisors first name but told him we did not give out last name. He asked if there was another number he could reach her at I told him no this is the only number. He them said "Elvia this is Mr Rogers i will get the information somehow" and hung up.
Any suggestions as to where to start. Friday is my last day as I will be going on maternity leave until about May 5

They did the exact same thing to me yesterday. I called them back later and spoke with Darnell who I informed that they still hadn't sent me my dunning letter from the last time they called and that they were notified in writing that I am not permitted to receive calls at work.

Darnell stated he would take me off the call at work list, but I don't believe it. I sent out a DV and Cease and Desist this morning certified.

Consumers, KNOW your rights!

In most of the posts listed above, I am seeing clear violations of the FDCPA by this so-called "law center" according to:
http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer/credit/cre27.pdf

Please. KNOW your rights...
There are penalties for violating these laws-- which are put into place by our government to protect us, the consumer. These collectors CANNOT threaten you.... See Section 807 in the above.

You can stop them from harassing you.... See Section 809.
There are penalties... See Section 813. And there's so much more. I wish I knew these back 10 years ago when I had debt problems. :-/

Read what the actual LAW says about all of this. (And even cross-reference it with you individual state laws.) Most likely, these posters are from that organization to keep the doubt alive in the people who are being violated.

Arm yourselves with knowledge. Cite these Sections and their numbers next time they call. Take notes on each violation while you are talking, and in the end submit all info to your State Attorney General. PUT THESE SO CALLED COLLECTORS IN THEIR PLACE.
