Equifax not listing full account numbers
Date: Tue, 11/23/2010 - 18:03
Hello,
Sorry if this has been asked before. I did a search, and the one answer that came up for me didn't really answer my question.
I recently pulled my credit report using Equifax and saw a few questionable accounts on there that I would like to find out more information about. Equifax does list the collection agencies that currently hold the accounts. However, the last 4 digits of the accounts are X'ed out. So, an account number appears something like this 8957XXXX. Do I need the full account number in order to start investigating this?
Thanks for your help.

I think you need the full account number to start investigating.
I think you need the full account number to start investigating. You can send a letter to Equifax asking them to give the full account number. They can give you the details on that particular account.

As Good Nelly posted, you should have the full account numbers in hand if you want to start investigation on the accounts. Equifax is not giving the full account number for security reasons. So, if you ask them to provide you the account numbers, then they will give you.
