My mother got a call from a company saying they were a process server with the sheriff's office and that they had papers for me. I do not live with my mother and never have..she lives over 90 miles away from me. They gave her a phone number and a case number and told them to have me call them. They tried to extract information from her but she would not tell them anything. When I called the number, I told them that I had this phone number on my caller id...this was at 8:30 at night. He asked me for a case number I said that I did not have one and he said well there is no way you do not have a case # as this phone # is not a number that would show up on your caller id unless someone gave it to you. He pressed for a case number I told him I would have to call my relative and get the information they left with them. He wanted my name, I would not give it to him and he got very loud and abrasive and said "why wouldnt you provide me with your name and the case # so that I can look it up and give you information to help you" I told him that I would call my relative and get the information. He was really rude and hung up on me. I am now wondering if this really is a "legal department" or some type of process server. Sounds like a collection agency to me trying to collect an old debt. The phone number they gave to call was 1-866-988-1001 with a "case" number but I cannot get any information onthe phone number. Also, about 4-5 minutes after I hung up the phone I immediately received a call from a # in Riverside, CA 951-286-4452. I did not answer...they hung up and then about 1 minute later called right back from the same # and again I did not answer. When I asked him the name of the company he said West Management but I cannot find any information on a company by that name either. So I want to know who these people are and if they really do have a summons for me wouldnt you think they would know where I was and if they are a legitimate debt collector shouldnt they have all the information that they need to serve me. Give me some help on what I need to do or if you know who these people are. Thanks

Its called Prime West Management and they also called me and posed as a Sherrif and that the needed to serve one of my employees a subpeona of a very sensitive and urgent matter. As they were speaking I googles the number on the caller ID and yes, it is a collection agency. When I told them what they were doing was againt the law, they screamed at me and hug up on me........I filed a case with the Atty. General in Florida

I too have received numerous unknown calls. I have called them back, they put you on hold and then never come back? They have called cell numbers for past addresses that I used to live at---they should just follow each states legal process and quit threatening people.

A big scam company said I owed $3700.00 to Citi Bank which I paid off in 2002. Same thing said they were a legal dept. and had a summons for me to be in court. I asked them for which court and which day cuz I would be there. They hung up. DONT BELIEVE THIS COMPANY, THEY ARE A BIGGGGGGGGGGGGG SCAM

A very good rule of thumb is that if any company says they are a process server, or are attempting to serve you papers, yet want a payment to make it all go away, then they are acting illegally and you should immediately report them to your state AG and the FTC.

Do not believe one single thing they say. The simple, honest truth is that you can not go to jail for having debt. You can not go to jail for having a bad PDL (ACH no actual signed check).

They can not "serve you papers". They are a collection agency. They may not lie.

Keep these things in mind.

You are in Florida and your paycheck is protected against garnishment. They have to be licensed to collect there and they would have to file a complaint in court in your county. You have nothing to worry about. You could file a case against them in court in your state and in federal court with a lawyer. You would win if they are serviceable. They probably are not.
Hi Goldenblast! How are you?

Thank you guys, these "people" (not what i wanted to say) have been calling me at work and my cell at all times. When i try to return there call they are not there, they say I owed a thousand dollars from a credit card back in 2003, and that now the debt had ballooned to almost four thousand dollars. They also told me that I would be sued and if I lost the debt would be even higher, somewhere around eight thousand i think they said. Also that my wages would be garnished out of my paycheck if i lost the case. I told them to take a hike but still have troubling thoughts lingering in my mind about this matter. Is it true there is no way they can garnish my wages in the state of Florida?
