Can someone tell me anything about these folks? I have no idea who they are but they have left several messages for me with our receptionist at work.

joyfordream, beware of this collection agency as they are listed among the unfair debt collecting companies.

I will ask you to pick the call and talk to the person. It must be relating to your debt. Tell him that you refuse to be contacted at work. They are also required to send the details of the debt in writing within 5 days of placing the call to you. If they have not sent you any written details of the debt, you need to send a debt validation to the company and request for the info. Make sure that you send the letter through certified mail/return receipt requested. You will have proof that the agency received your letter on the printed date and they are now legally required to produce you the details.

Also mention the cease and desist clause in your letter. The collection agencies are required to follow you request if you ask them to stop calling you at work or home. You can leave the option to be contacted by mail only. This way, you will be in touch with them and know about their intentions.

Be educated about the FDCPA laws. Use your rights while dealing with the CAs. As long as you are acting according to the legal norms, nothing will go wrong against you.

What is a validation letter? I'm new to all this. I am guessing they are calling about a payday loan I owe. Do you have an address for me to mail a letter to them?

Debt Validation letter forces the collection agency to present the accurate details of the debt. If you are not sure about a debt and the CA is calling you, they must prove you the accounts before you make any payment agreement. Also, this letter helps you to know about your creditors for whom they are collecting the debt. If you are not served with proper details, some other CA will contact you later for the same debt for which you might have paid at present.

Here is a sample letter that you can use to get your debt validated by the CA. Be sure to send your letter through certified mail with return receipt requested. You will have proof of your actions taken to resolve this matter. If they fail to give you the details, you hold a stronger position if the matter reaches the court.
