you want to save money? yourself,,,, read alot, get the most info you can get by reading the articles and threads in the Forum. I'm not an expert but alot of people have accomplish it without a company! remember nobody does anything for free and these companies have to have some kind of earning and that earning will be coming from you, you could use that money to pay debt!! think about it :)

It's always good to settle your debts on your own. You will be able to save a lot of dollars on fees and charges if you do it on your own. Check out the following link to gain more knowledge: http://www.debtconsolidationcare.com/diy/#debt-settlement.

I would definitely do it yourself not only to save money but to greatly reduce the chances of a lawsuit. Banks have become aggressive with debt reduction companies and in a lot of cases won't deal with them. I can give you some specific tips from my own experience if you send me a private message.

'AND do I get multiply quotes or just go with whoever seems the most legit?' Regarding this part of the question, before you enroll with a debt consolidation company, you must check out it's credentials, it's history and it's feedback from the customers.

I would call 866-833-6398 and you would pay no more than 25 cents on the dollar and they don't charge until they get you settlements. I saved about 85K and most importantly no phone calls what so ever.

I really don't understand the way 'anonymous11' continuously try to solicit some company. I think he is an employee of this so-called company.

There are trade offs whichever route you choose.
You can go with a debt company - either debt settlement or debt management depending on what your budget allows.
You can do it yourself.
You can also do a combination of the two where you have a coach available to answer your questions and guide you along through the process. There are a few people who offer this kind of service.
The main differences between the two options ultimately a matter of your personal preference. I liken it to painting a house. You can spend the time to learn how to do it properly and then spend the effort to do the painting or you can spend some money hiring a painter to paint your house for you.
One of my readers saved himself a lot of money negotiating his debt himself.

And welcome to this treasure trove of information.
I've got five cents to throw your way.
First cent: Read, read and read these forums.
Second cent: When in doubt ask questions.(You've started this one already, congrats)
Third cent: Gather the intel and make a plan. (It's got to be your decision and plan)
Fourth cent: Execute the plan.
And the nickel: Do not be intimidated by the process, you'll get through it.
It's a little overwhelming at first, but not for long.

Absolutely do it yourself. No one will look out for your best interests better than you. I settled all of my debt at the beginning of 2010 solely using this forum. I would post questions, searched threads about the credit card companies I had and got a lot of comfort knowing that others were in the same position I was. Without this forum I would not be in the place I am today.
The only thing I really considered was doing the coach thing. I came across several of them on the internet and that would still keep me in control but give me someone to bounce things off of.
