I just got a call from the above person with exact same type of message. No mention of original creditor, dollar amount etc.... just a case # and a threat that papers would be filed if I didn't volunteer to cooperate. Couldn't find a hiller & Associates. Douglas sounded like he was in a boiler room full of amateurs. I thought this was Joe Gallo's # anyway. I suspect a scam. Should I take the same course of action? Pressure them for all the details? Thanks.

Hi!
Welcome to the forums!
Next time they call you, ask them to send a debt validation letter to you. If they are unable to send a validation letter to you, then tell them to not contact you again. You can even send a Cease and Desist (if they are not able to validate the debt) letter to request them to stop contacting you further.

Under FDCPA law, debt collectors are forbidden from threatening consumers. So, they have violated the FDCPA laws. You can contact your State's Attorney General or file a complaint with FTC.

I just received a call from my Grandma, from across the country...telling me that Brad douglas called and said that there was a court case in Antioch (there is no court here in antioch) against me and that i borrowed money and will not pay it back. he told her he just needs to askme some questions before the court case. Is this legal! My grandma is almost 90 and was very upset.
