My wife owes 190.00 on a seven year old debt, I spoke to the collection "human being"
on the phone trying to settle for 125.00

The "person" said they could not send out paperwork agreeing to this amount saying it "was against company policy" to do so.

Only way to settle they said was by giving them our checking account number which I refused to do.

Told them I would only communicate by mail and told them never to call my wife again. I am sending a certified letter to this company tomorrow telling them not to call her at work or home.

What should be my next step

Thanks

If a company says this, I won't trust them in any way. As Shazzers has said, this is fishy. You're doing the right thing by sending them a certified letter. You should check out the SOL period for such debts in your state laws and ask them to not contact your wife if the SOL period is over. She did say she would work with them on an "action plan" ( god, i do still love her ) talked payments with them then she got busy at her job and had to go.

So does anyone know if since she admitted not paying all the debt. We live in Kansas. It actually was a public telephone bill for a service she wanted then didn't and couldn't get out of it story. Last payment of the 295 dollar bill was 160 made in March 2003 !!! It has taken this long for these parasites to find her .

Thanks
