Question on Judgements and Receiving a House
Date: Sat, 12/18/2010 - 06:05
Hello, how is everyone? This is a nice forum and I am getting a lot of help just from browsing. I have a couple judgements against me from past credit card debt when I owned a business. Around $10,000.00 and I have various other debt like cell phones and non credit card but credit debt through other companys when I had that business. Maybe around $20,000 all together but under $10,000 for the judgments that were awarded.
Someone wants to give me a house but I do not feel comfortable accepting it to begin with and especially if I would take it and then the judgments could lean on me immediately and force a sheriff sale?
Or can they just attempt a lean and then if the house was ever sold then they would be entitled?
Thanks for your time and help.

Thanks but can you explain if there is potential problems? Can there be an immediate sheriff sale with it in my name or is it just liens for if its ever sold? I imagine its different for different type of judgments but this one is strictly credit card. Also, no significant other or kids.

I would imagine they could put a lien on it, but I will let someone with knowledge in this area reply to this, I was only making a suggestion.
